I thought it sage to bring to your attention one of the greatest unsung heroes of heavy metal in the north-east, Sunderland's Battleaxe. They released two albums in '83 and '84, 'Burn this Town' and 'Power from the Universe' respectively both of which (but moreso 'Burn this Town') are supreme in their brilliance and unswerving adherence to the tenets of 80's English heavy metal. At the height of their career they toured with Saxon and I daresay outplayed them a few times too. In fact, any fan of Saxon's heavier material will feel immediately familiar with Battleaxe and consequently fall victim to an undeniable compulsion to visit Dave King's Battleaxe website and purchase the re-released albums in totally unnecesaary quantities.
I've got the Battle.....axe! |
